Incident report

Buxton and Edale team members were still involved with a task on Jacobs Ladder when a call was received relating to a potentially serious incidentMam Tor May 2015 1 on Mam Tor ridge.

Resources were quickly diverted but the exact location of the incident, which involved a five year old child with head injuries, was not known.  Buxton team members approached the ridge from Mam Nick whilst Edale members approached from Hollins Farm.  A further contingent was deployed from Back Tor farm.  A young boy from the Mansfield area had been walking with his family when he had fallen striking his head on a rock.

The initial rescue party was delayed by gestures and shouts from a drunken group on Mam Tor which gave a false indication as to the incident site.

However, the team were quickly back on route and arrived on site within twenty minutes to Mam Tor May 2015 2report that the child was conscious but in a poorly condition.  A rescue paramedic from Edale MRT was on scene shortly after the initial party and offered further treatment.  The Yorkshire air-ambulance was able to land within a few metres of the casualty which was then able to transfer him quickly to an East Midlands ambulance waiting under Mam Tor. The child was conveyed him to a Sheffield hospital.

UPDATE:  The casualties parents contacted the team the following day to report that despite five stitches to his chin, the young boy was showing no signs of further problems and was back at school with a great story to tell his friends.
