Incident report

Around tea time, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members were called to Mam Nick to assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

A 39 year old male from Ilkeston, Derbyshire, was paragliding in the Mam Tor area. Coming into land in the fields near to the Rushop Edge road, he took a very heavy impact near to a wall and sustained
injuries to his lower back.

He was treated on site by ambulance service and team paramedics, given pain relief, and after splinting, loaded onto a stretcher and placed into the waiting land ambulance which then transferred him to the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, for further treatment.

Neil Carruthers, Buxton Team Leader said “We believe he was preparing to land, realised he was near to the road and landed awkwardly in the adjacent field. Not sure whether he hit the wall or
not”.
