Incident report

Buxton and Edale snatch squad called to Edale Youth Hostel to evacuate a 29 year old female walker, from Oxford who was located in the Upper Moor area.  She was hill walking with family and friends and descending towards the Youth Hostel when she slipped and fell ca 4 metres into a grough sustaining injuries to her right knee, immobilising her.   She was treated on site by paramedics and team members, given pain relief before being packaged and placed on a stretcher and taken to level ground.   Due to the nature of her injuries and the possible impact an evacuation by stretcher across rough ground which might have aggravated her condition, it was decided to request an evacuation by helicopter, due to the terrain an RAF Sea King helicopter was requested.   The aircraft couldn’t land because of the terrain so the winch man was lowered and she was winched into the aircraft and taken to the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield for further treatment.
