Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called following a report of a lady who had sustained an arm injury whilst walking in the Woolpacks on the Kinder call-out Aug 2015 webKinder’s Southern Edge path.

The lady, on a few days holiday from Watford, had been walking with her husband when a simple slip resulted in her injury.  Help was offered by several passing walkers including a family group of two adults and five young children who stayed with the casualty throughout the incident.  The lady’s pain was bearable and the group agreed to start walking off the moor.  Mountain rescue was alerted and just a few local team members were asked to climb Jacobs Ladder to escort the casualty down.

However, the weather deteriorated during the call-out with persistent rain and reduced visibility as the cloud base dropped to around 500 metres.  At this point the group decided it best to stay still and wait for assistance to arrive.

Rescue leaders now became concerned for the welfare of the young children and the possible aggravation that walking may cause to the lady’s arm injury.   Buxton team then widened the membership call-out committing a full rescue party to the incident and called for the support of Edale Mountain Rescue Team in case a stretcher evacuation of the casualty became necessary.

In the event, the whole casualty party was found to be in good spirits with all the youngsters well wrapped up in appropriate clothing and excited by the adventure.  The lady continued to walk down with some assistance but the stretcher carrying party was not required.  All parties were conveyed back to Edale to continue their journeys.  The casualty was advised to visit a hospital before returning home.
