Incident report

A night search training exercise developed a realistic twist when two men walking over Kinder were reported overdue.  The Sheffield men had set off from Chinley railway station in the morning to walk via Kinder Scout to meet a friend in an Edale pub.  When the men were overdue the friend managed to contact them by mobile-phone and learnt that they were lost on the moor.  An hour later, the men still hadn’t turned up and phone contact had been lost.   The friend decided to act and contacted mountain rescue.

Buxton team was training in just the right place and already had members along the Southern Edges and in Edale Valley.  It was one of these search teams that came across the men which turned out to be a party of three.   The men had been disorientated for a while but had eventually found the Jacob’s track leading safely into the valley.   The full party was reunited and further search planning was suspended.
