Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called together with Kinder Mountain Rescue Team when three Kinder call Aug 2015 1ladies reported themselves lost on Kinder Scout.

Buxton team set up Control for the third time in four days at Edale railway station car-park to plan a search of the south western corner of the plateau.  Three ladies, two on holiday from Canada and another from Lincoln, had set off on the first part of the Pennine Way from Edale with the intention of staying the night at Snake Inn.  The party found their way to Kinder Downfall when a navigational error sent them in to the centre of the moor.  Confused in the boggy terrain they made an early call for assistance.

Buxton team sent three search parties in from the South whilst Kinder MRT accessed the moor from the West.  An aircraft from the National Police Helicopter Support was also tasked into the area by Derbyshire police.   It was the helicopter which initially located the group in the centre of the plateau and directed ground parties into the area.  Search Dog Shep was first to arrive soon followed by other rescue members.  After an swift check-up which found the party all fit and well, they were guided to Edale Cross where a Kinder MRT Land Rover was waiting to take them down into the valley.
