Incident report

A full team call-out for three rescue teams and search dogs following a reportSnow 20 from two walkers stranded in darkness and blizzard conditions on the southwest point of Kinder Scout.

The walkers had visited Kinder Downfall but their only map blew away from their hands. In failing light and heavy snow they made their way along the edge path to find Kinder Low trig point.  But, with no map and a damaged compass they were unable to orientate their route off.

Buxton, Kinder and Edale teams responded even though the road conditions made travelling into the Edale Valley potentially dangerous. In team and privately owned 4×4 vehicles members eventually reached Lee Farm at Upper Booth and began to ascend Jacob’s Ladder.

In the meantime, two other walkers met the casualties and led them off the moor. Fortunately the party descended the same route as rescuers were climbing and all parties met up and returned to the valley.
