Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called following the report of a man having fallen five metres fromWhite Lodge web  Sept 2015 a steep woodland path in Great Shacklow Woods.

A seventy year old man from Bolton was on a weekend walking break with family and friends when a simple slip resulted in a significant tumble down a very steep bank.  Medical examination was started by team members who determined the possibility of a back injury.

Whilst the casualty was being further examined and prepared for extraction, an air-White Lodge Heli Sept 2015ambulance was requested to minimise the transport time to hospital.   The Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air-ambulance was able to land near to White Lodge car park and then waited for the team to carry the man by stretcher down the hillside.

Following further examination by aircrew Doctors the gentleman was taken by land-ambulance to a Stockport hospital.

    I am that man. I am still in Stepping Hill Hospital awaiting assessment of my back injury spending my fourth night since the accident and rescue. I cannot thank Buxton Mountain Rescue enough. I do not know how I would have managed without you. I shall be sending you a substantial donation when I eventually get home. Thanks again for everything.

    As two of those walking with Tony – now to be known as “that man” – we must add our thanks and admiration to the 16 people involved in getting Tony out and to hospital. All the members of the BMR team were efficient, friendly, cheerful, positive and professional; we were most impressed.
