Incident report

Buxton team called to evacuate a 19 year old male from Brieley Hill, who bottomed out whilst leading Central Tower. When he fell his protection failed. The casualty, who was wearing a helmet, fell ca 5 metres, hit a grass bank and rolled ca 10 metres, being stopped abruptly by a boulder. The casualty, who had pain in his back and chest was treated on site by team members and EMAS community paramedic and loaded onto a stretcher. The stretcher was then lowered using a back rope approximately 50 metres to the waiting air ambulance which evacuated the casualty to the Northern General Hospital for further treatment.

Post Script: Follow up from the casualty’s climbing partner was that the casualty was discharged from hospital later in the evening with no significant injuries but a side full of cracking bruises, a good result compared to how things could have been
