Incident report

Buxton Edale snatch squad called to evacuate an 83 year old male from Ashbourne who had slipped whilst descending the footpath and sustained injuries to his upper right arm, he was a member of a party of 16, who were walking part of the Limestone Way.  After treatment on site by EMAS paramedics and rescue team personnel the casualty was evacuated by stretcher, some of the ground was very rocky and the path surface was polished limestone through use, making it a difficult surface to negotiate safely with a stretcher.   This meant that we had to evacuate hand over hand for a considerable part of the evacuation.  The final part of the evacuation was across farmland to a waiting land ambulance at One Ash Grange Farm, near Monyash, the casualty was then transferred to the ambulance and taken to the Chesterfield Royal Hospital for further treatment.
