Incident report

Buxton MRT called as part of a multi-agency response to a serious and tragic incident whereby two cars had overturned into the River Wye on a private track leading from an A class road to Blackwell Mill Cottages.

At the time of the incident and for some days before, the area had been lying under a covering of snow and ice.  Rescue from the vehicles was being undertaken by Derbyshire Police Officers and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service.   Buxton Mountain Rescue Team did not attend the accident site but was asked to provide transport for three casualties from Blackwell Mill to Millers Dale via the snow covered Monsal Trail.  The three casualties were then taken by rescue team ambulance under police escort to hospital.

It was with great sadness that the team later learnt that a fourth casualty had died as a result of the incident.

All members of Buxton MRT send their most sincere and deepest sympathies to the family.
